Our Vision

Informed by ongoing and robust research, state sentencing practices adhere to international standards and best practices in considering the parent-child relationship.

Alternatives to incarceration are developed in the interests of maintaining the parent-child bond.

The state and community partners provide sufficient resources for the development of community-based programs that serve the best interests of children when their parents are incarcerated or otherwise involved in the criminal justice system, and provides effective oversight to reduce opportunities for abuse.

In cases where caregivers must be incarcerated away from their children, correctional facilities have policies in place to facilitate the maintenance of the parent-child bond.
